You can harbor this for a long time and not have an outbreak. He needs to go get tested ASAP. You must also inform any prior sexual partners so they can get tested as you have no clue how long you have had the herpes virus before it showed up externally.

No there isn’t always a sign. A person can have this disease and not show symptoms at all for several months. Chances are,he probably gave it to you. Despite what some say, people CAN spread the disease even when they are not showing signs of an out break. It’s a disease in the nervous system that stays forever and most of the time lays dormant,or symptomless. You can not however get tested for herpes unless you are having a breakout. They have to test the blisters. There are new meds that you can take that will help prevent outbreaks and even make it less likely to spread the virus. Good luck.

depends on your immune system and the environment. Nobody is clear on what triggers the virus and makes it active but the first time you get it that is where the worst outbreak begins. Afterward, the virus goes dormant and can be re-activated by the 2 factors that i previously mentioned
If you really show bad symptoms then i recommend the antiviral medications, but these medications come with harmful side effects

Regardless of whether or not he shows signs of it, he should still go and get tested. It’s hard when you just find out because you hope that you dont give it to the person that you are in a relationship with. Believe me I know what thats like. It lays dormant in the base of your spine and can be brought on at any time. He might have it now but not show any symptoms for another year or so… do yourselves both a favor and go get him tested. Hope this helped!!!
